“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.” (II Tim 4:3 NLT)
There are those who come to a minister or a counselor for advice, but the truth is – they really only want to hear what they want to hear. They don’t want to hear the truth – and if you tell them the truth, they get angry with you because what they wanted was for you to take their side on an issue instead of siding with the Word of God.
We must face the truth, including the truth about ourselves! If we don’t see ourselves clearly, we won’t be able to change, and our lives will not get better. We continue to deceive ourselves, thinking we’re on the right path and blindly heading for destruction.
Dr. Phil McGraw says, “You cant change what you don’t acknowledge.” Facing the truth about ourselves can be painful, but it is a necessary step toward positive change. And as Jesus said, it is the truth that sets us free.
