The House That Faith Builds: Part 1
“Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it:…”. Psalm 127:1 (KJV)
Describe your dream home. Perhaps you are already living in it, or maybe the dream has never become reality. God has a home, made specifically for YOU! But this house is not a house made with human hands. It is a Kingdom that is vast, expansive and invisible. The Bible refers to it as the Kingdom of God. This is the House that Faith Builds. Although it cannot be seen, that does not mean it doesn’t exist. One cannot see wind either, but we know it exists because we can hear it and feel it.
This Kingdom has a ruler, Father God, and is more real than the world in which we live. One day this world as we know it will pass away, but God’s Kingdom is eternal and it will never end. This world is constantly changing. We, as people of the Kingdom, are also ever-changing, growing more and more into the image and likeness of our Heavenly Father.
This change occurs within us as we allow the Word of God to transform our lives. God sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for us, for you, for me. He loves us too much to leave us as we are. This process of transformation begins as we grow in maturity and in our knowledge of Him. We “morph” and become new people, the people of the Kingdom.
This change occurs over a period of time. It doesn’t happen overnight. It is a life-long journey as we are forever being changed. God not only has a plan for you, but He has a plan for your family. He is the Master Architect and has designed a house made specifically for YOU! His design is outlined in His Word. When each member follows the guidelines and principles laid out in His Word, they experience peace, joy, love, and happiness, all things eternal.
There is no perfect family. But, we do serve a perfect God. He alone is the Master Architect. If we follow His plan, we will be on the right track to building our dream home. What might your dream home look like? Perhaps you mean well, and have plans, but have yet to build it. Maybe you like the challenge of a “fixer-upper?” Or do you prefer a home that’s in mint condition, “move in ready?” If you are fortunate, you may be one of the few who actually live in their dream home!
I enjoy watching television shows on home repair. Some homes appear beautiful on the outside, and I am surprised that they would be in need of repair at all, until the front door is opened. Surprise! What appears to be beautiful on the outside, turns out to be badly in need of remodeling. The outside obviously does not reflect the condition beyond the front door. Sadly, this is the state of some Christian households.
Spiritually speaking, there are those who mean well; and have good intentions, yet their dream never becomes a reality. Dreams just don’t happen. No dream is fulfilled until we wake up and go to work. There is a proverbial saying, “The highway to hell is paved with good intentions!” We must follow God’s blueprint if we want to build our dream home. Dream homes don’t just build themselves. It requires diligence and great effort on our part. This dream home is built by following God’s instruction manual, the Bible. This is the House that Faith Builds. There’s nothing wrong with desiring a “move-in-ready” home, naturally speaking. But spiritually speaking, anything worth having is worth working for. Hard work requires effort, and it pays great dividends. “All hard work brings a profit,…”. (Proverbs 14:23) Put forth the effort. Your family is worth it!
